The new Joint Venture project – Business between socially excluded people and NGOs – had its virtual Kick off Meeting (KoM) on February 4th and 5th 2020 with all partners from five different European countries. The launch of the project has been exciting and successful, as it is expected to achieve good results thanks to the tools that will be developed and the experience of the organisations involved.

The project aims to design and implement a new hybrid methodology for the incubation of “Joint Ventures” involving people at risk of social exclusion who want to create a new business and who can do so with the guidance of an NGO and the business world.

Evidence from the recent pandemic crisis indicates that this type of collaboration is essential to mitigate the effects of unemployment, the effects of increasing social exclusion, and low employability in Europe, where the need for valuable new skills is very high. Strengthening entrepreneurship is a determining factor, as it is a cross-cutting element that can help people fit into a European dynamic of socio-economic development.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Design and build an incubation methodology to establish new businesses between people at risk of exclusion and NGOs and thus create a new model of collaboration between them;
  • Develop a training course focused on providing more tools and skills to future entrepreneurs
  • Create sustainable business models for people at risk of exclusion and share the tools with the business world, NGOs and EU administrations.

The partners are: COMMUNITY ACTION DACORUM from the UK (project coordinator); CSC Danilo Dolci from Italy; FI GROUP from Spain; CASA IOANA from Romania; CEED from Bulgaria and ASSOCIATION WITH VALUES from Spain.

The KoM was a good opportunity for the partners to introduce themselves and lay the first foundations of a good relationship destined to last for the duration of the project – 30 months – and beyond. It was also important to establish the modus operandi for the development of the tools and the first intellectual outputs IO1 – “Design of adapted incubation programmes“: research and development of training contents on social entrepreneurship at European level adapted to the stakeholders’ target.
